Hi Doug
all I can tell you at the present time as that the Prince of Wales pub has closed and I heard a rumour it is being turned into a bookies
many thanks bermondsey biz

Hi, I have the engraved pewter tankard owned & used by a W H Monk the licencee 1881, of the Prince of Wales pub, Plough Road,Rotherhithe.
Anyone know any more about this man or indeed would like to make me an offer on this piece of History?
Hi my name is Diane and i think this sight is great and the pictures too for all the people that have something in common with these boroughs.I am reasearching my family tree and thats why im here, as i have a story from Rotherhithe to tell with pictures that will follow shortly. I have traced my family to Rotherhithe where my great great grandfather had a baker shop (Matthes) at 173 Rotherhithe New Road in the late1800`s. If anybody has pictures or stories of the Matthes shops or people i would be glad of the help. Many Thanks and story with pictures to follow.

It is wonderful to see the photo's of old Bermondsey, I have visited Spa Rd on serveral occaisions on visits back to England and have noticed how Bermondsey had chanaged. Have just been watching a film on the Docklands and it brought back many memories of when i was a boy and used to watch the ships loading and unloading in The Pool of London. One of my mmories was watching a gun being lowered and fitted to the stern of a Merchant Ship, not that it would save them in an attack but at least it gave them something to fight back with.. The Pool of london looked naked without the working cranes and the bustle of Tugs and barges fussing up and down the River, also the wonderful sight of the Red Sailed Medway Barges tacking up the Thames... Anybody out there that rembers these days and would like to chat about them Iwould love to hear from them.. Ron ![]()
Hello everyone
I have just joined this site tonight.
I want to pick up further about the photo on the top of the home page. I am absolutely convinced that the young girl with the hat and fur collars is my nan! She lived in Woodlands Place (now Bacon Grove) which is just off of Grange Road. Can someone please confirm the year this photo was taken??
Thank you.
Does anybody have a photograph of the old Victorian school called Albion Street School Rotherhithe, that was destroyed during the Blitz in 1940?.
I lived in 27 Mayflower Street Rotherhithe from 1931 when I was 3 years old, until I left home when I married. My parents lived on there until it was demolished in the 1960's.The front door was photographed and was also put on canvas, many times, but we never saw the end product. Can anybody help please?
I was born in No 40 Neptune Street in 1928 which was also bombed early in the Blitz, and I am looking for a photograph of this house to put in a book I am writing
I shall be pleases to re-imburse any necessary expenses if photographic copies any of the above can be provided. Many thanks.
