Dont know about this, maybe the South London Press may have photos of it when it was put up,in their archives. well are we East Enders or South Londoners??
It is not mentioned in his book is it?

It was unveiled in 75 or 76 and it was called Bermondsey Boy. I'm sure it was of Chaplin. Whatever, it's gone now!
East Enders are Bethnal Green down to Wapping, along to Tower Bridge to the west and Roman Road to the east. Beyond that they are East Londoners. We are south east Londoners and definitely not East Enders! Nitto!!

Perhaps we are being a little bit harsh on him, as he must be getting on like us all who grew up with his 'celebrity' before celebrities were invented. And, he did dutifully turn up (didn't he?) for his blue-plaque a while back when it was stuck on a Dicken's estate walI. I understand he's gone into sculpturing in latter years. I think Southwark Council should definitely commission him to sculpt 'a piece' commemorating Bermondsey?s historic London River.

Didn't he sculpt the Charlie Chaplin statue that was outside the library in Albion Street? Then it went missing!

I believe he may be a bit 'up imself' nowadays to participate. As what I've heard during 'productions on stage' he's an ever-so posh lovey actor you know. His co-workers/players during rehearsal are told "On no occasion are you to draw his attention or look him direct in the eye". Wot's that all about?
Tommy...? There's a little white bull behind you right now ready to butt you right back into Bermondsey reality!

'bout time this Bermondsey Boy respected his roots and did the Bermondsey Carnival one year. Wee Willie has and so has Michael Barrymore.
